How To Maximise The Energy Efficiency Of Your Conservatory

Conservatories are often neglected within homes, considered too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, however, it doesn’t have to stay that way!

We’re here with some ways that you can maximise the energy efficiency of your conservatory, to help you save money and make use of the space all year round.

Get Conservatory Roof Insulation

First up, you should get conservatory roof insulation. A significant amount of heat is lost through the roof, especially if you just have single or double glazing. So, a layer of insulation can be added to the roof and then covered with a stylish finish, that can seriously transform your conservatory and how much heat it is able to retain. It can also help to reduce dampness in the space to protect your great furniture.

If you’re worried about the appearance if your roof is currently glass, a layer of tint can be added. The extra layer can also help to stop glare through the roof which is another bonus! Overall, you will have a cooler space in the summer, you will save energy in the winter as it will take less to heat the place up, and you can also improve the appearance of the space.

Don’t Underestimate Soft Furnishings

Something else to consider is soft furnishings. You shouldn’t underestimate the power of soft furnishings, as they can really help to take the coolness and emptiness of a space if you currently don’t have many or any soft furnishings. From comfy sofas that take up quite a lot of space to cushions, rugs and blankets, add soft furnishings to your space and you’ll soon reap the benefits.

Focus On Draught Proofing

Another great way to make your conservatory more energy efficient is to focus on draught proofing. Reducing the amount of draught can really warm up the space, which you can do by resealing all of the windows and doors, adding self-adhesive foam weatherstrips, and using window films or foam tapes. These are really inexpensive options that can make a big difference so are definitely worth implementing!

Get Insulating Blinds or Curtains

You should also make sure that you get insulating blinds or curtains, as these can really help to block cold from entering the space. If you get light-controlling blinds, you can also prevent too much sun and glare from entering in the summer, especially when paired with some of the other options like conservatory roof insulations.

Vertical blinds or Venetian blinds made with aluminium are great for conservatories as they are less prone to warping in the sun, or roller blinds are also great and come in a range of different energy-efficient materials to help even further.

Think About Your Heating

As with any room, your conservatory will likely need heating options in the winter, so thinking carefully about the right ones is important. Although it’s more of an investment, one of the most efficient heating options would be underfloor heating, as this distributes the energy well in a cost-effective manner.

Another option would be electric radiators, which heat the space quickly and can also be chosen to suit the design of the space. Whilst they heat up quickly and mean you don’t need to have any of your heating pipework relaid, they also cool down quickly, so this is something to consider.

If you want something that makes a statement in space, you could also consider a log-burning stove, which is super cosy and quickly heats the space. Plus, it uses a regenerative energy source, providing a stylish yet eco-conscious heating solution for your conservatory.
